Power Capital Renewable Energy has announced the successful delivery of a 120 MVA transformer from ASTOR A.Ş., marking a significant milestone in the development of its 153MW Ballymoneen Solar Farm in Galway.
The delivery of the transformer signals a key step forward for the project’s 110kV substation and associated infrastructure. According to Power Capital, the grid connection works—comprising the 110kV station, IPP compound, and grid route—are now at an advanced stage, with full energisation on track for completion by the end of 2025.
Construction of the grid infrastructure began in early 2024, led by ICP contractor H&MV Engineering. Voltalia, serving as the project’s EPC contractor, has now mobilised on-site and commenced civil and electrical works. The coordinated effort aims to deliver one of Ireland’s most significant utility-scale solar farms, contributing to the nation’s renewable energy targets.
The project involves key contributions from several partners, including H&MV Engineering as the ICP contractor, Danu Energy Consulting Ltd, EirGrid Group, ASTOR A.Ş. as the transformer supplier, and Voltalia serving as the EPC contractor.
Once operational, the Ballymoneen Solar Farm is expected to supply clean energy to tens of thousands of homes, reinforcing Ireland’s transition to a low-carbon economy.
