Qair, an independent renewable energy company, has signed power purchase agreements (PPAs) and concession contracts with the Tunisian government for two major photovoltaic projects: Gafsa (100MW) and El Khobna (198MW).
Awarded through public tenders under Tunisia’s concession regime, these projects will supply electricity exclusively to the Tunisian Electricity and Gas Company (STEG), supporting Tunisia’s goal of 30% renewable energy by 2030. By integrating clean energy into the national grid, they contribute to energy diversification and transition efforts.
Tunisia has established three regulatory frameworks to encourage renewable energy investments:
Self-Consumption Regime – For individuals and businesses generating their own power.
Authorization Regime – For mid-sized projects awarded through competitive bidding.
Concession Regime – For large-scale projects awarded via public tenders.
Louis Blanchard, President of Qair Group, emphasized the company’s long-term commitment:"Tunisia holds strategic importance for Qair, and we are honored to contribute to its energy transition. The Gafsa and El Khobna projects reflect our dedication to supporting partner nations in achieving their renewable energy goals."
