RATCH launches operation of Block 1 of the Hin Kong power plant

The plant will direct its generated electricity to the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand.

RATCH Group Public Company Limited has initiated commercial operations of the combined-cycle Hin Kong Power Plant Block 1 with an installed capacity of 770 MW.

The Hin Kong plant will generate 700 MW of contractual electricity to the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) through a 25-year power purchase agreement.

The project is operated with natural gas as its primary fuel, as secured by Hin Kong Power Holding Co. Ltd. for the import of 1.4 million tonnes of liquefied natural gas (LNG) yearly.

The Hin Kong Power Plant Project is comprised of two blocks of combined-cycle power plants through a total installed capacity of 1,540 MW, wherein RATCH has an equity capacity of 785.40 MW. Construction of power plant block 2 gained 96.5% of progress, with tests to occur within the month and operations to commence by January 2025.

“Hin Kong Power Plant is well equipped with sophisticated and high-efficiency technology in both power generation and environmental impact management. With compliance to sustainable development, it is confident that, the power plant will be definitely able to create values for the economy, society, community, and environment,” Choosri Kietkajornkul, CEO of RATCH, said.
