ReNew (NASDAQ: RNW), India’s leading renewable energy company, unveiled its 1.3 GWp solar project in Jaisalmer, Rajasthan. The project, inaugurated by Shri Pralhad Joshi, Hon’ble Minister of New and Renewable Energy, and Shri Bhajan Lal Sharma, Hon’ble Chief Minister of Rajasthan, marks a major step in India’s renewable energy transition.
Spanning 3,500 acres across multiple villages in Jaisalmer, the project will generate approximately 2.49 billion units of electricity annually, powering around 500,000 households. It is expected to reduce CO2 emissions by about 2.3 million tons per year, significantly contributing to India’s environmental sustainability goals.
A key highlight of the project is its alignment with the "Make in India" initiative. ReNew has used 100% domestically manufactured solar panels, with 90% of them produced in Rajasthan at its facility in Jaipur. This marks the first time a project of this scale in India has been built using entirely local solar modules.
The project will supply electricity at a competitive rate of Rs 2.18/kWh, supporting the state’s energy self-sufficiency and contributing to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat (Self-Reliant India). Additionally, local communities will benefit from 25-year land lease agreements, ensuring a stable income for surrounding villages.
ReNew’s investment of over Rs 21,000 crore in Rajasthan underscores the company’s commitment to driving renewable energy growth and local empowerment in the region.
