UK-based solar and energy storage developer Renewable Connections has secured approval from Somerset Council to build a 90 MW battery energy storage system (BESS) in South West England.
The project, located on Summerway Drove in Bridgwater, will span 1.7 acres and is expected to further strengthen the region’s renewable energy infrastructure.
This approval marks a significant milestone for Renewable Connections, bringing the company’s consented renewable energy projects in the UK to over 1 GW. The Somerset project is the company's 24th project approval since 2021, reflecting the company’s rapid growth and continued commitment to renewable energy.
Just over six months ago, Renewable Connections also won the prestigious Energy Champion of the Year award at the national Energy Awards, solidifying its position as a leader in the renewable energy sector.
The company, founded in 2020 by sustainable energy investment specialist Armstrong, has set its sights on developing up to 4 GW of new renewable energy capacity by 2030, with a focus on both solar and energy storage systems across the UK.
