Vestas Wind Systems today announced a firm order from German wind project developer Enova Power GmbH for a 65-MW repowering project in Germany.
The Danish wind turbine maker will supply, deliver and commission nine V172-7.2 MW wind turbines for the project in Meppen, Western end of Lower Saxony. It will also service the turbines over 25 years following completion. Turbine delivery is set to start in the fourth quarter of 2025, and the commissioning process is expected to be completed in the first quarter of 2026.
“A great team effort on both sides led to the largest onshore project in Enova's 35-year history,” said the company’s chief executive Hauke Bruemmer and added that Enova will invest about EUR 600 million (USD 651m) in German onshore wind by 2026.
The developer received permit for the Meppen repowering project in 2023.
The modern, large Vestas turbines will replace 14 existing Enercon E-66 machines. The dismantling of the first five old turbines will begin in March, the company explained. The new wind turbines will then be installed before dismantling the remaining nine existing turbines.
