RES, the leading independent renewable energy company, has signed a sales agreement with Prime Capital AG for the Alby Hydrogen Plant in Ånge, Sweden. This marks a milestone for RES Nordics, representing its largest green hydrogen project to date.
The plant will utilize 500 MW of renewable energy from the Tovåsen substation to produce green hydrogen through electrolysis. This hydrogen will be combined with captured CO2 to create synthetic sustainable aviation fuel (eSAF), in line with the EU’s ReFuelEU initiative to decarbonize aviation.
Beyond its environmental impact, the project will bring socio-economic benefits to Ånge, creating local jobs and strengthening the municipality's role in Sweden's renewable transition.
Matilda Afzelius, CEO of RES Nordics, highlighted the significance of the collaboration, calling it a "final exam passed with honors" for RES Nordics' ability to develop attractive and sustainable energy projects.
Erik Lövgren, Chairman of Ånge’s Municipal Board, praised the region’s resources and renewable potential, emphasizing the plant’s role in Ånge’s industrial development.
Dr. Mathias Bimberg, Managing Director at Prime Capital, noted the Nordics’ advantages in producing synthetic fuels, citing the region's low-cost renewable electricity and water availability.
The Alby Hydrogen Plant adds to the successful partnership between RES and Prime Capital, which includes other projects like Björnberget Vindkraft AB.
