Renewable energy company RES has launched a second round of consultation for the Steeple Renewables Project in Sturton-le-Steeple, Nottinghamshire. The project, located near the former West Burton Power Station, will involve up to 600MW of combined solar and battery energy storage.
While the current plan is to allocate 400MW to solar and 200MW to storage (75% solar, 25% battery), the final distribution could be adjusted based on consultation feedback.
This £224 million investment will create 400 jobs over a 24-month build period. The project will utilize existing grid infrastructure at the West Burton substation, reducing the need for new infrastructure and minimizing local impact.
RES plans to submit a Development Consent Order (DCO) application in Q2 2025, with feedback from the consultation being accepted until 3 March 2025. Additionally, RES aims to offer a Local Electricity Discount Scheme providing annual discounts of at least £350 to local homes and businesses.
Will Bridges, RES Project Manager, emphasized the project's role in continuing Nottinghamshire's legacy in UK energy generation, aligning with future renewable energy goals.
