RWE has commissioned the 44MW Puerta del Sol solar farm in Spain.
The solar farm is located near Madrid in the Guadalajara province. It has been informed that around 100,000 bifacial solar modules are installed in the project.
Chief executive of RWE Renewables Europe & Australia Katja Wünschel was quoted in a statement, “The commissioning of Puerta del Sol makes me very proud. RWE is now operating solar capacity of more than 140MW in Spain.
He further stated, "Innovative technologies like the bifacial modules enable RWE to make the best use of the Spanish sun and to drive forward the energy transition in Spain. We are happy that the expansion of our business is progressing well in Spain, which is one of our most promising growth markets."
RWE has built the long-established onshore and solar business in Spain.
The company commissioned two solar farms in 2023. In addition, RWE is in the commissioning phase of 10 MW Las Vaguadas in the province of Badajoz and another large-scale solar project in Andalusia.
Currently, RWE is keen to step into the Spanish offshore market with its partner Ferrovial. The duo plans to jointly develop, construct, and operate floating offshore wind farms off the Spanish coast.
