German energy company RWE AG has commissioned the 8.5-MW Bojanowo East solar park in Poland, the first of more than 100 MW of solar farms that the company is building across the country.
“Bojanowo East is a great milestone for RWE’s solar expansion in our Polish core market. It is the first project in a whole series of solar parks we are currently building across the country to be put into operation,” Katja Wuenschel, CEO RWE Renewables Europe & Australia, said in a statement on Wednesday.
The facility is located in the Wielkopolskie region in central Poland and uses more than 17,800 solar modules.
RWE said it is partnering with the Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznan on a biomonitoring pilot project to study conditions for biodiversity at solar farms.
In Poland, the German company operates 541 MW of wind farms and 54 MW of solar capacity and is developing its first Polish offshore project, the 350-MW F.E.W. Baltic II wind scheme.
