Scatec ASA, a leading renewable energy provider, has commenced commercial operations of the first 60 MW of its 120 MW Mmadinare Solar Cluster in Botswana.
This marks Scatec’s first operational project in the country and is part of a 25-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with Botswana Power Corporation, ensuring long-term revenue stability.
The remaining 60 MW is under construction and is expected to be completed by early 2026. Scatec currently owns 100% of the project but plans to bring in additional equity partners to optimize its long-term economic interest.
Scatec CEO Terje Pilskog highlighted the achievement of commercial operations within budget, reinforcing the company’s commitment to expanding renewable energy in the region. Meanwhile, Alberto Gambacorta, EVP of Sub-Saharan Africa, emphasized the smooth transition from development to construction and now operations, as the company ramps up efforts to complete the second phase in 2026.
