Senec Ramps Up LFP Battery Exchange Program and Launches Two New Products

After experiencing several fires, EnBW's subsidiary, Senec, has decided to replace certain models of its residential battery storage systems with lithium iron phosphate (LFP) cells. Concurrently, Senec is launching two new LFP battery energy storage systems to the market.

Senec, a Leipzig-based energy storage specialist, has officially commenced the LFP replacement process for its storage solutions, describing the initiative as a mammoth project. Since late July, approximately 5,000 systems have already been replaced, with several hundred more being swapped out daily.

The decision to offer this safety upgrade follows reports of fires in homes where Senec products were installed. Customers with V2.1, V3, or Home 4 systems equipped with a specific generation of battery modules are being offered the latest LFP-based battery technology. According to the company, these new batteries offer a longer service life, improved performance, and enhanced safety.

The exchange process began as scheduled at the end of July and is being carried out by Senec's partners. At the current pace, more than half of the affected modules and systems are expected to be replaced within the year. However, the entire field exchange is likely to extend beyond a year.

Senec has stated that the LFP modules, along with the necessary accessories, will be delivered to its partners, who will then carry out the replacements.

The progress of this extensive campaign can be tracked online.

"So far, the exchange is proceeding according to plan, which has already generated a lot of positive feedback from both our Senec partners and end customers," said Senec CSO Christian Haferkamp. He noted that the current record for one team is twelve exchanges in a single day. Haferkamp emphasized that the LFP exchange is a critical step in bringing Senec systems up to the latest technological standards and ensuring customer satisfaction.

In addition to the replacement program, Senec announced on Tuesday that it will be expanding its product portfolio at the end of August with two new LFP home storage systems. These include the Home P4 model, which offers storage capacities ranging from 7.1 kWh to 17.5 kWh, and the Home E4 three-phase system, with a storage capacity of 9.2 kWh, designed for families with small to medium-sized PV systems.
