Solar power generation in Europe has proved to be a boon during recent heatwaves in Europe, according to the experts.
Solar power played a crucial role in preventing energy shortages in the southern region.
Among other European countries, Spain and Greece are much ahead in solar panel installations. Despite the Russia-Ukraine conflict, the countries have increased installations due to record-breaking energy prices.
Spain witnessed solar energy produce 24% of total electricity this month alone, up from 16% in July 2022, as per local reports.
Likewise, solar energy met nearly half of the surplus demand, totalling 1.3 GW, in Sicily, as per local reports. It means there has been over double the increase in solar energy production compared to last year.
In Belgium, solar energy has covered over 100% of the additional energy required power demand.
Europe’s energy systems faced extreme heat this summer though overall demand remained below average. Amid such, there is a need to accelerate energy infrastructure investments and boost solar-storage hybrid projects.
