Spark Renewables has announced that its Dinawan Energy Hub has been awarded approximately 1 gigawatt (GW) of access rights by EnergyCo, following a competitive process run by AEMO Services under the NSW Government’s Renewable Energy Zone (REZ) access scheme.
The awarded capacity includes:
707 MW of wind
300 MW of solar
300 MW / 1,200 MWh of battery storage
Together, these assets will supply enough clean electricity to power around 500,000 Australian homes annually.
Strategically located next to Transgrid’s Dinawan Substation, the project benefits from direct grid access, supporting lower-cost, reliable energy and accelerating NSW’s clean energy transition.
Expected to generate 1,200 construction jobs and over 50 permanent roles, the project emphasizes local employment, training, and First Nations participation. Over its lifetime, more than A$100 million will be invested into community development, workforce upskilling, and local industry readiness.
Spark Renewables CEO Anthony Marriner said:“We identified the South West REZ as a prime opportunity early on, combining world-class wind and solar resources with strong grid connectivity. Dinawan will deliver affordable, round-the-clock renewable energy while driving economic and social value across the region.”
The project is also backed by Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP), who hold an option to acquire a minority interest at financial close and are actively supporting the development phase.
As part of the broader vision, the Dinawan Energy Hub will contribute to Tenaga Nasional Berhad’s (TNB) global target of reaching 14.3 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2050.
