SPCG Aims for Carbon Neutrality by 2030 and Partners with INNOPOWER to Trade Renewable Energy Certificates

Dr. Wandee Kunchorayakong Juljarern, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of SPCG Public Company Limited (“SPCG”), has announced the company’s goal to achieve carbon neutrality by 2030. SPCG, a leading pioneer in solar power generation with solar farms and the first solar roof installations in Thailand and ASEAN, has signed a significant agreement for trading Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs) with Mr. Athip Tantivorawong, Chief Executive Officer of Innopower Co., Ltd. (“INNOPOWER”). INNOPOWER, a subsidiary of the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT), is recognized for its leadership in energy innovation.

Dr. Wandee emphasized the importance of addressing greenhouse gas emissions and global warming, noting Thailand’s commitment through its participation in the Paris Agreement since September 21, 2016. Thailand has set ambitious goals, including achieving carbon neutrality by 2050 and net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2065. Additionally, the country has increased its Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) target, aiming for a 40 percent reduction in greenhouse gases by 2030.

SPCG has always prioritized social and environmental responsibility in its business operations. As a leader in the clean energy sector, SPCG operates 36 solar farm projects in Thailand with a combined production capacity exceeding 260 megawatts. These projects are environmentally friendly, generating no pollution, fuel costs, or waste, and have contributed to reducing carbon dioxide emissions by over 200,000 tons annually.

The recent agreement with INNOPOWER includes a Memorandum of Understanding for managing and trading RECs over the next five years. SPCG anticipates that its solar projects will generate approximately 370,000 to 400,000 RECs per year. Dr. Wandee expressed her satisfaction with the collaboration, highlighting its role in advancing Thailand’s greenhouse gas reduction targets and promoting renewable energy through REC trading.

Mr. Athip Tantivorawong commented on the significance of addressing greenhouse gas emissions across various sectors, including industrial, household, and transportation. He emphasized INNOPOWER’s mission to integrate technologies that enhance environmental sustainability while reducing greenhouse gas emissions. INNOPOWER is dedicated to supporting clean energy generation and seeking innovative solutions to make energy use more efficient, reflecting its commitment to reducing emissions and fostering sustainability in Thailand’s green energy sector.
