Statera Energy has acquired a 680MW battery energy storage system (BESS) project in north-west England.
The Carrington Storage project, situated at Trafford Low Carbon Energy Park in Greater Manchester, is set to become one of the largest BESS facilities in Europe upon full commissioning in 2026. With a capacity over twice the size of Statera's upcoming 300MW Thurrock Storage, Carrington will represent nearly 25% of the UK's current operational BESS capacity.
Approved by Trafford Council, this is Statera's largest consented BESS project to date. It will work in tandem with long-duration energy storage and other flexible technologies, helping to balance renewable energy generation peaks and troughs. By storing surplus renewable energy and delivering it when needed, Carrington Storage supports the Government’s goal of a decarbonised electricity grid by 2030.
Since its establishment in 2016, Statera Energy has made significant contributions to the UK energy sector, with over 1GW of projects operational or under construction. Following this acquisition, its consented BESS pipeline now stands at 1,370MW, solidifying its role as a leader in flexible, low-carbon energy solutions.
