Norwegian company Statkraft has announced significant progress in the development of a 188MW photovoltaic project in the province of Valencia. The project includes two plants, Los Predios and Los Hierros, each with a capacity of 70 MW, to be constructed in the municipalities of Turis and Alborache. The project has received a favorable Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) from the Ministry for Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge, with construction slated to begin in the second half of 2025.
The project currently does not have a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) in place. “At the moment it is a development project and the formula of creating local energy communities is being studied,” a Statkraft representative.
Los Predios will feature 142,336 660 W modules, totaling 93.94 MW, while Los Hierros will consist of 140,160 660 W modules, totaling 93.907 MW. The energy generated by these plants will be delivered to the SET Turís 220/30 kV transformer substation through a 30 kV underground power line. The line will span 27.3 km, with 25.2 km overhead and 2.1 km underground.
Each plant will occupy approximately 40 hectares, where activities linked to organic farming will be promoted. In this regard, Statkraft has signed an agreement with the Valencian Farmers Association (AVA-ASAJA) to involve the association and its members in the Los Predios and Los Hierros projects. Both entities are currently defining the terms that will allow the agricultural organization and its members to acquire up to a 5% share in these photovoltaic plants. This participation will be managed through a single company, grouping all interested irrigation entities.
