Statkraft, Europe’s leading renewable power generator, has signed a partnership with Eku Energy to optimise and trade its 40 MW Loudwater Battery Energy Storage System (BESS), under construction and set for completion by mid-2025. Statkraft will provide services to maximise the system’s value across wholesale and ancillary service markets.
This agreement adds to Statkraft’s growing portfolio, which now includes 2.7 GW of flexible generation and battery storage capacity across Great Britain. Statkraft’s optimisation services, which launched in 2018, have made it a key player in the sector, attracting numerous clients and enabling them to boost revenues from flexible energy assets.
The company’s London team, a leader in long-term energy trading in the UK, has pioneered solutions such as forward trades on battery assets. Statkraft also has plans to play a major role in supporting green hydrogen projects in the UK.
Nick Heyward, Head of Storage for Markets at Statkraft, expressed excitement about partnering with Eku Energy, highlighting their ability to optimise energy storage assets. Eku Energy’s CTO, Elias Saba, also praised Statkraft’s advanced trading solutions, looking forward to maximising the value of the Loudwater BESS together.
