Survey works of 100MW floating offshore wind project concluded in Scotland

Simply Blue Group, Ørsted and Subsea7 have concluded the survey works of the 100MW Salamander floating offshore wind project.

The companies informed that they have completed the geophysical and environmental survey works.

The wind project is located located 35km off Peterhead, off the east coast of Scotland.

According to the companies, survey contractor Ocean Infinity conducted the offshore survey activities, for which the Northern Franklin vessel was used.

It has been reported that the “project is designed to provide the Scottish supply chain with an early capacity development opportunity.” It will further help the company to play a substantive role in large-scale floating offshore wind buildout.

According to the project partners, it will “deploy innovative and cutting-edge floating offshore wind technologies.”

The project will pass through the innovation track of Crown Estate Scotland’s Innovation and Targeted Oil and Gas (INTOG) leasing round, the company stated.

Salamander Project Director Huw Bell commented, “This is a key landmark for the project as the survey results will be used to support engineering studies including mooring design and cable burial assessments. Benthic survey data will be analysed onshore with results supporting the Environmental Impact Assessment and the overall consenting process.”
