Switzerland is preparing to launch its largest battery storage facility in Bonaduz, marking a key milestone in the country’s shift toward sustainable energy.
With a capacity of 100-120 MWh and an output of 50-60 MW, the facility will help stabilize the national grid by storing surplus energy during low-demand periods and supplying it during peak times.
This project supports the Swiss Energy Strategy 2050, aiming for climate neutrality and the phase-out of nuclear energy.
Aquila Capital advised Avadis Anlagestiftung on the investment, emphasizing its commitment to advancing energy transition projects. Aquila Clean Energy EMEA, a sister company, will support the development, construction, and operation phases. Swiss energy firm 49Komma8 AG will manage the construction and implementation, with Avadis Anlagestiftung owning the site.
The 5,500 m² facility, located near a substation, will be connected to the national grid through a transformer station. Construction is set to begin in 2026, with operations expected to commence in 2027. Once operational, the facility will improve grid flexibility and stability, addressing energy supply fluctuations.
