Terpel Sunex aims to reduce over 400,000 tons of CO2 emissions by 2030 through renewable energy projects and industrial self-generation. This initiative is part of its broader 2030 goal, equivalent to planting more than 15,000 trees.
The company has completed the first phase of the Hidrocasanare project in Yopal, which, with over 4,230 solar panels and 2.0 MWp capacity, is the largest of its kind in the department. The second phase, expected to bring the capacity to 4.9 MWp, will be operational by the end of 2025.
Terpel Sunex’s renewable initiatives are already benefiting companies like Decathlon, Jerónimo Martins, Unicentro Neiva, Parque Caracolí, and 22 Terpel service stations, which are collectively self-generating over 16,356 MWh. This move accelerates energy transition and expands industry participation.
Juan Daniel Rueda, New Business Manager for Energy and E-Mobility at Terpel, highlighted that Sunex promotes self-generation within industries, aiming for a sustainable future. "This subsidiary is key in fostering growth and generating positive environmental impact for Colombia."
Mauricio Ocampo, General Manager of Terpel Sunex, emphasized that these projects reduce corporate carbon footprints, enhance regional development, and lower operational costs.
This year, Terpel was recognized in the Corporate Sustainability Assessment (CSA) by S&P Dow Jones for its sustainability efforts, scoring 69 points—48 above the industry average—thanks to its strong Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) practices.
