TMEIC Corporation (TMEIC) and West Holdings Corporation have announced a business alliance focused on the development of grid-connected battery storage solutions. The companies will jointly develop high-voltage grid-connected storage systems with outputs under 2 MW, targeting 20 locations nationwide and a total capacity of 160 MWh.
Through this partnership, both companies aim to accelerate the adoption of grid-connected battery storage systems by leveraging their complementary strengths. The first project will be the development of a high-voltage storage facility in Sōsa City, Chiba Prefecture.
Additionally, the companies will collaborate on large-scale battery storage systems with outputs exceeding 2 MW, connecting to special high-voltage grids. Already, they are advancing two such projects in Hiroshima Prefecture, including a 10 MW, 35 MWh system, with a total capacity of 130 MWh.
The partnership will involve TMEIC providing West Holdings with a “Flexible Battery System” that enhances the flexibility of capacity and layout design. This system combines modular outdoor battery units, each with a 400 kWh capacity, and power conditioning systems (PCS). The system is scalable, with capacities available up to 8.5 MWh, tailored to the specific needs of each site.
These battery systems will be equipped with TMEIC’s Energy Management System (EMS), known as TMAurora. TMAurora integrates IoT technology developed by TMEIC and output control technology for power plants, enabling detailed data extraction from on-site equipment. This cloud-based system will optimize the economic performance and stability of energy production through advanced data analytics.
Kenji Miyano, Executive Officer of TMEIC, stated, “TMEIC has over 20 successful grid-connected battery system projects both domestically and internationally. Building on this experience, we aim to provide safe, reliable, and high-quality systems that meet the diverse needs of our customers.”
