TotalEnergies is acquiring a majority stake in two Danish offshore wind projects, Jammerland Bugt and Lillebælt Syd, from European Energy and SONFOR. Both projects have received construction permits from the Danish Energy Agency, clearing the way for development.
TotalEnergies will take 85% of Jammerland Bugt (240 MW) and 72.2% of Lillebælt Syd (165 MW). European Energy and SONFOR will remain as minority shareholders in both projects.
Martin Rune Pedersen, Managing Director of TotalEnergies Denmark, stated, “This is a significant milestone for TotalEnergies as we take on majority ownership and the role of operator for these important offshore wind projects. With the Kalundborg and Sønderborg areas rapidly developing, the demand for green energy will grow substantially in the coming years.”
Knud Erik Andersen, CEO of European Energy, expressed confidence in TotalEnergies’ ability to successfully deliver the projects, while Ellen Trane Nørby, Chairwoman of SONFOR, added that TotalEnergies is the perfect partner for the 14-year-old Lillebælt Syd project, which is set for completion in 2029 as part of Sønderborg Municipality’s climate neutrality goals.
The two offshore wind farms are part of the Danish Energy Agency’s open-door initiative confirmed in December 2023, with exclusivity and grid connection permits granted. The generated electricity will be sold on the wholesale market or through Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs), helping companies reduce their carbon footprint.
Expected to be operational by 2029, the wind farms will provide electricity for about 400,000 households in Europe.
