TotalEnergies Uganda has issued a call for expressions of interest from companies for an Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contract to develop a 15MW ground-mounted solar power plant near Lake Albert. This project is intended to support the oil production of the Tilenga project, which involves the development of six oil fields in the protected region of Lake Albert in western Uganda.
The solar power plant will be a turnkey installation designed to enhance the energy supply for the oil exploitation activities. Interested contractors are invited to submit their requests for prequalification questionnaires by email no later than June 7, 2024. Applicants must meet a set of minimum requirements detailed in the call for tender document to receive the questionnaires.
By the end of 2023, Uganda had deployed 95 MW of solar power, according to the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA). This project by TotalEnergies is part of a broader effort to integrate renewable energy into the country’s energy mix.
Earlier this year, Uganda’s Ministry of Water and Environment launched a tender for the Expanding Electricity Access Project, a five-year initiative aimed at building 40 solar energy supply systems across the country, further highlighting Uganda’s commitment to expanding its renewable energy infrastructure.
