Uniper has begun construction on two solar projects in Staffordshire, UK: the Tamworth Solar Farm and the Totmonslow Solar Farm. Once operational, these farms will generate renewable energy to power up to 23,300 homes annually, supporting the UK's net zero targets.
Tamworth Solar Farm, located in Alvecote, will have a capacity of 44.20 MWp, powering around 15,900 homes per year.
Totmonslow Solar Farm, in Draycott, will generate 21.33 MWp, powering approximately 7,400 homes annually.
Both projects received planning approval in 2023, with Tamworth also securing a Contract for Difference (CfD) in the AR6 auction in August 2024. Construction is set to begin later this year, with the first electricity expected to be fed into the grid by 2026.
These projects are part of Uniper's €8 billion commitment to renewable energy, aiming to expand its solar and onshore wind portfolio across Europe. Uniper is particularly focused on the UK, Germany, France, Italy, Sweden, Hungary, and Poland, and plans to develop up to 10 GW of renewable capacity by 2030.
In the UK, Uniper is also exploring renewable projects around its existing power stations, potentially including battery storage. In addition to the Tamworth and Totmonslow projects, Uniper is constructing several solar farms in Germany and Hungary.
The combined export capacity of the two projects is 45 MW—30 MW for Tamworth and 15 MW for Totmonslow. Sunotec UK Ltd and Sustainable Bright are the Engineering Procurement and Construction (EPC) contractors for these projects.
