Uzbekistan breaks ground on 263 MW solar power plant

China Datang Corp. has commenced construction of a 263 MW solar power plant in Uzbekistan's Buka district, situated in the Tashkent region. The project is being managed by China Datang Overseas Investment, a subsidiary of Datang, which is partly owned by the state-run energy company JSC Uzbekenergo.

The new solar plant will be developed with an estimated investment of $150 million, spanning approximately 612 hectares.

Upon completion, it is set to become the largest operational photovoltaic (PV) plant in Uzbekistan, contributing significantly to the country's renewable energy infrastructure.

Currently, Uzbekistan's installed solar capacity stands at 253 MW, as reported by the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) for the end of 2023, with no new solar capacity added in the country during the previous year. The completion of this project will more than double the nation's solar capacity, marking a major step towards enhancing Uzbekistan's renewable energy landscape.
