Verano Energy has made a significant move in the renewable energy sector with the signing of a 15-year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with ABASTIBLE S.A., marking the official launch of the Domeyko project.
This ambitious 83 MW solar initiative, featuring a 660 MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS), is designed to harness solar power during the day and provide energy at night.
The Domeyko project represents a critical step forward for Verano Energy, reinforcing its growing role as an Independent Power Producer (IPP). The company is no longer just a developer of solar projects but is now actively financing, operating, and managing large-scale renewable energy projects across Latin America.
Speaking about the project, Verano Energy’s CEO, Dylan Rudney, emphasized the significance of the BESS system, stating, “Thanks to this innovative technology, we can provide energy during the night using solar power captured throughout the day—an achievement that highlights our commitment to sustainable, cutting-edge energy solutions."
Located in Domeyko, in the III Region of Atacama, south of Vallenar, the project represents a USD 230 million investment and is expected to begin operations by the end of 2026. The partnership with ABASTIBLE S.A. further strengthens Verano Energy’s transformation into an IPP, while also deepening its commitment to the energy transition.
