Vietnam Energy Update: Canon Vietnam Cuts Electricity Usage by 11% with Solar and Smart Energy Innovations

Hanoi, Vietnam – Canon Vietnam Co., Ltd., a leading Japanese manufacturer, has successfully reduced its electricity consumption by 11% over the past five years, thanks to its focus on solar power and energy-efficient technologies. From 85,845 MWh in 2019, the company’s total electricity use dropped to 76,054 MWh in 2023, saving nearly 600 tons of CO₂ emissions annually.

Central to this achievement is Canon Vietnam’s use of rooftop solar panels and smart energy management systems. In collaboration with Thang Long Industrial Park Infrastructure Co., Ltd., the company installed solar panels at its Hanoi facility, which now provides 16% of the plant’s electricity needs.

Canon Vietnam’s energy-saving initiatives also include the integration of smart Building Management Systems (BMS) that monitor energy usage in real time. These systems alert the company to equipment inefficiencies, enabling swift corrective actions. The company’s energy efficiency drive is aligned with its goal of obtaining ISO 50001 certification by 2026.

Over the last five years, Canon Vietnam has implemented several technical upgrades to improve energy efficiency, including the replacement of high-energy equipment, the installation of motorized dampers and LED lighting, and the use of ice storage tanks to reduce energy consumption during peak hours. These measures have helped reduce energy use per product by 14.4%.

Canon Vietnam’s commitment to energy efficiency has earned the company recognition at the 2024 Industrial Energy Efficiency Awards, where it received the Second Prize for its efforts to reduce energy consumption and promote sustainable manufacturing practices.
