Vietnam's south-central coastal province of Ninh Thuan has pledged to become the country's leading locality in renewable energy development.
According to the Vice Chairman of Ninh Thuan People’s Committee Phan Tan Canh, the region has a great potential in renewable energy development including both wind power and solar power.
The coastal locality has wind speeds of 7.5 metres per second, which is the highest rate in the country. Meanwhile, in terms of sunshine, the province gets more than 2,800 hours of sunshine per year. This is the highest number in the country and ideal for solar power generation.
According to the provincial leader, Ninh Thuan has attracted huge investment in a large number of renewable and clean energy projects.
Earlier, the government had also issued a resolution and gave approval for Ninh Thuan to develop into a national renewable energy hub by 2025 with a vision to 2030. In addition, the provincial Party's Committee has issued the National Energy Development Strategy by 2030 with a vision to 2045.
Cảnh was quoted in a local report, “The resolution and plan by the provincial Party's Committee demonstrates its steadfast leadership in promoting the province’s strengths in the energy sector, especially renewables, ensuring energy security, promoting sustainable development of the sector, and mobilising all the resources needed to turn the province into the country’s renewable energy hub.”
The province is home to 53 renewable energy projects including 11 wind power plants, 32 solar plants and 10 hydropower projects by the end of 2021. They have a total capacity of 3,176.5MW connected to the national grid.
