Zelestra, a global renewable energy player, has broken ground on a new 6.5 MWdc solar plant in Ginosa, located in Italy’s Puglia region. The project is expected to generate 11.7 GWh annually and cut 3,700 tons of CO₂ emissions per year when it becomes operational in February 2026.
The Ginosa plant is part of a 10-year PPA agreement with BKW Energy, which also includes the upcoming 9.5 MWdc Bellomo project in Modica, Sicily. Construction of Ginosa has already created around 50 local jobs.
Eliano Russo, Zelestra’s Italy Country Manager, highlighted the project as a step toward supporting Italy’s decarbonization efforts and expanding the green economy through job creation and infrastructure investment.
Altenia, a subsidiary of Terna Energy Solutions Group, is serving as the EPC contractor, offering end-to-end infrastructure services.
Zelestra is rapidly expanding its footprint in Italy, with 30 projects (500+ MW) in development and plans to triple its pipeline in the next two years. The company was recently ranked among the top 10 global clean energy sellers to corporates by BloombergNEF and 2 across EMEA.
